A project for grades 4 and up:
Simple Seed Stitch Dishcloth
This makes a good scrubby dishcloth
Materials:
Cotton, flax or hemp yarn
Knitting needles (really any size from 4 mm to 8mm will work well – the smaller the needles the denser the cloth and the smaller the dish cloth)
Method:
CO 33 stitches
Row 1 – 3: Knit across
Row 4: Knit 3, purl 1, knit 1; repeat from the knit 1 purl 1 pattern until you reach the last 4 stitches, purl 1, knit 3
Row 5 – 44: Repeat Row 4
Row 45 – 47: Knit across
Row 48: BO all stitches
IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER: Remember to move your yarn to the front of your needle before each purl stitch and to the back before each knit stitch. Count the stitches on your needle after every row to be sure. Until this becomes a comfortable action you need to focus on your knitting. Once it is a comfortable rhythm you’ll love this stitch and what it looks like!
